Two weeks, seven tests, eight assignments and two movies old at SCMHRD. It has been quite a ride!
Movies:
The schedules have been hectic, but we've already managed to squeeze in two visits to the theatres. Only, on both occasions, the movies turned out to be pretty sad. While we are yet to recover from the guilt of having blown money on them, I think being in SCMHRD should help us in getting used to paying for getting tortured...
Food:
The food has been decent by 'mess' standards. But if you have a good memory and happen to remember what you have eaten over the last couple of days, you are bound to find the food to be pretty repetitive. Sometimes, at lunch, there is an exchange of features between rotis and papads; rotis will need to be broken and papads, torn! The dinner desserts are invariably the show stealers...
Acads:
Sixteen subjects in the first semester. They could give us a surprise test and ask us to name all the subjects; we would collectively flunk!
Some of our professors are very good. Irrespective of how good a professor is or how interesting the subject is, we all begin lectures with tendencies of suspended consciousness. So you got to be really good to engage us.
Prantosh Bannerjee is a stud!
Being used to fixed time tables through my school and college, I am yet to come to terms with the dynamics of our schedules. The only kind of planning that I've been able to do here is to ensure that there are no screw ups the next day. I’ve not been able think beyond that. I've been aspiring to get organized for a long time. Let us see...

OBL, Test and Washing!
After being robbed of two grand for a 30km auto ride, and a few treks from the hostel to the main campus, I settled into my room. The following day, the guys got decked with formal shirts and ties while the girls tumbled around in their saris for an inauguration that presented to us the lethal force which holds SCMHRD together - Subbu! Being promised a gruelling two years ahead, we retired to our rooms and made arrangements to be woken up at 5am to catch the 6am bus to 'Surya Shibir'.
What a place! In spite of Subbu's instructions to the trainers to make Out Bound Learning (OBL) as tough and demanding as possible, we managed to thoroughly enjoy it. We got to know many of our batch mates; a truly diverse batch, I must say. OBL served its other purposes as well. The trek was tiring. So were a few team activities. My team, the Red Bulls (B1), drew a lot of flak from the trainers for supposed "lack of planning", but we seemed to adamantly adhere to it. We finished last, though we strongly suspect that the result was rigged! Ankita, Tithi, Charu, Khushboo, Jhilmil, Ankita Behl, Harshad, Amruta, Pooja, Viraj, Prashanth, Varun, Divya, Charul, Neeraj, Ankit, Lalith, Krishna, Akshut and SK (I tried my best to maintain height order) it was great getting to know you guys!
When we got back to the campus, battered and bruised, we were invited with a notice that informed us about a finance and economics test scheduled the following day. We were delighted! They actually told us that we were going to have a test and even mentioned the subjects! How much more benevolence can one expect! They were also kind enough to ask us to submit our finance assignments.
Last evening, post the test and assignment submission, I performed one of the most arduous tasks in my life thus far. I washed my clothes. One and a half hours for 13 of them. After initial ridicule, I was told it was a decent effort for a beginner...

Packed Up
In about 15 hours, I would have begun my journey to Pune. My bags are packed; my wardrobe is empty. As the curtains fall on a 20 year stay at Bangalore, I am uncertain about if and when I would return. While I try to reflect on the significance of this moment - of how my entire past is about to meet a seemingly promising future - I am amazed at how devoid I am of any emotion. At this juncture, I find myself neither nostalgic of the 'good old days' nor very excited about the prospects of what is to come. Has it all gotten too heavy for me to think with clarity or have I subconsciously realized that life is just a continuum in spite of the many changes that occur in its course, I do not know. But even at this moment, while I am bereft of all feelings, what I know for sure is that I will miss home and all those myriad components that constitute it. As I venture out, with aspirations of higher 'erudition', I hope to fulfil the objective of such an exercise. Looking forward to being at SCMHRD...
